Against the Grain is a Vermont-based, family-owned bakery founded by Nancy and Tom Cain, dedicated to creating grain-free and gluten-free breads, pizzas, bagels, and baking mixes using only simple, real ingredients—never stabilizers, gums, or artificial additives. Inspired by the founders’ personal experiences with celiac disease, the company set out to make gluten-free foods that are so delicious, everyone can enjoy them, regardless of dietary needs. With a focus on taste, transparency, and quality, Against the Grain has grown from a small-batch bakery into a nationally recognized brand, now part of the HumanCo portfolio, while remaining committed to its Vermont roots and small-town spirit.
